Vietnam - Hoàng Su Phì to Ha Giang - Rice Terrace Fiesta

Wednesday 06 July 2022

I felt better after 9 hours sleep.  My clothes were still damp from the day before - it was so humid I think our clothes were soggier on departure than when we arrived.  Dat unearthed fresh fruit for breakfast which was the tonic I needed and we had a local photo shoot ;-)  Shame you can't see how amazing the terraces were behind us.
After that  we had a short stroll through the local rice terraces.
And we continued to stop and snap as we drove south.
Rice terrace construction.
Just beautiful, beautiful.
I really appreciated straight, tarmaced roads today.  It was quite a long drive but smooth.  Saw this boy peeping over the back of a lorry at it passed us.
Local village with fresh meat stalls.
Oooh, surveyors :-)
We arrived at our home stay around 1600 and after green tea had a short walk around the locality. We popped in to view the village temple, shared by the Buddhist, Taoist and Confucius followers.  Dat explained some of the background to the various artefacts and emblems we saw.  Such a beautiful lotus flower.
The walk was refreshing, in a sticky-but-in-fresh-air way.  I found another town sign!
Caterpillar fest.
Locals.
We dined with the home stay family and enjoyed watching the host's drone footage of the area (certainly a more well off homestay family than we've met before). Dat produced yet more fruit and I realised today that we’d munched our way through 8 different types of fruit. Banana, watermelon, guava, lychee, pineapple, dragon fruit, pear and mango. Wonderful!
